Q&A: How do I ask for someone's pronouns?

Q&A Sep 5, 2023

As an individual, one simple, inclusive change you can make to your everyday linguistic habits is to ask people for their pronouns, and name your own, rather than assuming. Making an assumption about someone's gender identity can lead to misgendering them. We want to respect all aspects of another person’s identity, so it’s crucial that we use the same terms people use for themselves. Asking for another person’s pronouns can seem awkward, so it’s helpful to have a plan.
